Doobie Brothers Help Promises2Kids Mission

The Doobie Brothers performed at Joan Waitt's La Jolla estate for Promises2Kids benefit on Monday night.

The Promises2Kids event held last night at the La Jolla estate of Joan Waitt was a rockin’ retro event featuring a concert by the Doobie Brothers.

Yes that’s the Doobie Brothers of legendary and timeless songs like China Grove, Black Water, and Listen to the Music.

The evening started with cocktails and silent auction item shopping on the lawn. Auction items included services by La Jolla’s Body Sculpt by Sarah, followed by a live auction later at dinner that included such temptations as a Harley-Davidson Night Rod and a stay in Ian Fleming’s Golden Eye vacation home in Jamaica.

Among those there to support the evening’s cause were honorary chair and hostess Joan Waitt, event chairs Rocio and Mike Flynn, and Promises 2 Kids CEO and president Susan Golding.

In addition, Bonnie Saldivar-Jones (founder of On Demand Workouts), Peter Jones, Dr. Mitch Goldman and his fiancée Laura Linden, Miriam and David Smotrich, Susan Oliver, Karianne and Tom Forsyth, Lori and Bill Walton, Valerie and Harry Cooper, Laleh Roudi, Emma and Leo Zuckerman, and Lee and Stuart Posnock attended the event.

Guests enjoyed a catered dinner by the Hyatt Regency La Jolla that included a leafy salad with edible flowers and candied walnuts, an entrée of petit filet mignon, and a trio of desserts.

As the live auction progressed during dinner, the happy news that an anonymous donor had given $250,000 was announced.

And with that high note, the Doobie Brothers took the stage and proved their vocal and instrumental prowess. Guests swarmed the stage and enjoyed a spectacular evening. Proceeds from the event will help the Promises2Kids mission “to break the cycle of child abuse through prevention, education, and advocacy.”
