La Jolla High Girls Take Shootout for Soccer Title

Callan Parra scores in regulation before the Vikings take the shootout, three goals to one.

Sophomore Karly Zlatic scored the third and deciding goal for La Jolla High in a penalty-kick shootout Saturday night as the Vikings took the Division III section championship over Cathedral Catholic.

The two teams had played to a 1-1 tie over 95 minutes at Westview High before going to the tiebreaker. Kendall Kraus scored for the Lady Dons in the 16th minute, but La Jolla senior Callan Parra, the team's leading scorer, tied it less than a minute later on her 18th goal of the season.

Secon-seeded La Jolla (14-4-3) will hear Sunday who its opponent will be in the Southern Californoia Regionals.
