La Jolla Couple Adds Voices to Filner Critics

The Visins are angry over the mayor's intervention with their planned renovations. Meanwhile, Filner's more serious critics renewed their calls for his resignation over sexual harassment allegations.

A La Jolla couple has joined the crowd of critics clamoring around Mayor Bob Filner, who is facing calls to resign.

Jack and Karen Visin are battling with the mayor's office over their plans to renovate their home and questions about whether it has any historic value, according to 10News.com.

Last month, a Filner staffer intervened when the San Diego Planning Commission was hearing their case.

“I think the mayor had everything to do with it,” Jack Visin told the station, while accusing Filner of abusing his power.

The report did not include any comment from Filner's office.

The mayor is facing increasing pressure on other fronts, and on Friday, his prominent critics refused to back down.

Three former supporters of Mayor Bob Filner who have called for him to resign amid sexual harassment allegations renewed their demands Friday via Twitter despite the apology the mayor released via video Thursday.

Attorney Marco Gonzalez said Friday via the social media site that he, ex-Councilwoman Donna Frye and attorney Cory Briggs "stand by (their) original demand, video notwithstanding."

Gonzalez said additional information would be provided next week.

The trio of former Filner supporters sent letters to the mayor earlier this week urging him to leave the mayor's office following the allegations of sexual harassment. They reiterated their call for his resignation in a news conference Thursday morning, although they declined to release details of the claims.

Within hours, Filner had released a statement via DVD that stated in part, "as someone who has spent a lifetime fighting for equality for all people, I am embarrassed to admit that I have failed to fully respect the women who work for me and with me, and that at times I have intimidated them."

The mayor said he had started working with professionals to make changes in his behavior and approach, and would participate in sexual harassment training.
