Smashburger Robbed by Gunman in La Jolla

Two masked gunman took an undisclosed sum from Smashburger on the 1000 block of Prospect Street.

Two men dressed in black hoodies and masks robbed Smashburger on Prospect Street in La Jolla on Sunday night, according to San Diego Police. The incident occured less than 24 hours after a robbery at Rigobertos on La Jolla Boulevard.

Police said the two men entered the restaurant on the 1000 block of Prospect Street through the rear door at 10:19 p.m.

The men were both armed with handguns, made a demand for money and were last seen leaving with an undisclosed amount of money, police reported.

Robbery Detectives were on scene and are investigating.

Smashburger owner Dave Whisenhunt released the following statement: “We are pleased to hear the news that the police have apprehended the suspects and almost all of our money has been returned. We thank the police for their hard work and we will await the results of the investigation before pressing charges. As always, the safety of our guests and employees is our top priority and we are thankful that no one was hurt.”
