Missing Dog Returned Home With Help From La Jollans

You might have seen the posters plastered all over La Jolla for a missing military service dog. Macca has made it back to his family!

A La Jolla couple is overjoyed and grateful to the La Jolla community. Their 7-year-old Black Labrador, Macca, was returned safely after being missing earlier this month.

After coming home from the Marines Birthday Ball on Nov. 9, Myles Newlove and his wife Tanya realized that Macca was missing. Immediately the two sprang into action, putting up posters all over La Jolla as well as contacting local shelters. (Note: Many of these posters are still up all over the Village.)

“We still can't figure out how he got out of the backyard,” Tanya said.

Macca was not on the streets for too long. A woman quickly found Macca. When she went to put up “found” posters, she spotted the Newlove’s missing poster and immediately called the number.

“It was very emotional when we got him back, especially for Myles. He raised Macca as a pup,” Tanya said.

The Newloves and their dog are originally from Australia. Back in Australia, Macca was a customs dog. Macca worked as a narcotics detector in the Australian prison system.

The Newloves are overcome with gratitude for their neighbors and the sense of community.

“Everyone was just absolutely beautiful. One of our neighbors who hadn’t even met Macca before got in his car and drove around looking for him. People on their bikes saw his poster and started going in different directions to try to find him,” said Tanya.

Tanya also said that many people called up the numbers listed on the poster to give tips for finding Macca, such as looking on Craigslist.

The Newloves have been trying to take down all the posters, but Tanya notes that if you see one with Macca on it, please take it down. He’s now at home with his loving family, safe and sound.
