Oprah's Got a Gift for La Jolla

A charitable auction involving the television icon will benefit the La Jolla Playhouse.

As far as big celebrities go, there's Oprah—then there's everybody else.

But, in a charitable twist that will help La Jolla, you have the chance to party with her next month.

CharityBuzz is auctioning off a night with the stars of The Butler, a movie about a former White House butler premiering next month starring Oprah Winfrey and Academy Award-winner Cuba Gooding, Jr. The proceeds will go to the La Jolla Playhouse.

The Playhouse wouldn't say how the charitable connection happened, simply telling U-T San Diego, "'We are very grateful for The Weinstein Co.’s fundraising support.' "

The package has an estimated value of $25,000 and allows you and a guest to go the Los Angeles (Aug. 12) or New York City (Aug. 5) premiere of the movie and meet Winfrey, Gooding and Daniels, plus dance the night away at the after-party.

By Thursday night, 27 bids had driven the price up to $26,000. Bidding closes at noon Tuesday.
