Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash Are Legitimate Heirs to American Music and La Jolla

La Jolla native son Mark Stuart brings his soulful country sound to the third La Jolla Concerts by the Sea on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Written by Kyle Lundberg

The Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash will bring their American country musical namesake to the La Jolla Concerts by the Sea this weekend.

Led by native front man Mark Stuart (born at old Scripps Hospital on Prospect Street), the band helps keep the musical spirit of American Roots Music (exemplified by the immortal Johnny Cash) alive. Note, they are not a tribute band.

The band culls from a variety of sources and influences such as folk, rock, bluegrass and western swing, crafting original songs such as Texas Sun, Walk Alone, Restless Heart and Radio Girl.

The group, formed in 1995, has shared the stage with the likes of Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Buck Owens and Steve Earle. Despite its name, Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash is nothing but legitimate. All La Jolla Concerts by the Sea are free, and concessions will also be provided.
