The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego's (MCASD) collection features over 4,000 works of art created since 1950.…More MCASD has long been the center of contemporary art exhibitions, public displays and educational programs. Both the local community and out-of-town guests enjoy viewing the interesting, bright and large galleries of contemporary art. The scenic, coastal location is a beautiful backdrop for both interior and exterior works of art. Make sure you walk around the museum grounds to truly appreciate the outdoor sculptures, especially the exploding display of boats viewed on the Coast Blvd. side.
Guided tours are offered Saturday and Sundays at 2pm, and on the third Thursday of each month at 6pm. MCASD promotes art education by the many programs they make available to local schools and youth groups. Special events and travel opportunities are available to members. And if you're looking to find a special location for a private event, the Axline Court and the Sherwood Auditorium are available to rent.
The MCASD X shop has all sorts of museum quality gifts to take home or send as presents. You'll find a full assortment of books, clothing, decorative items and children's products. Before leaving, make sure to stop by the refreshing Museum Cafe, which serves a local inspired menu. Breakfast, lunch and homemade sweets are tempting selections to end your inspirational day by the shores.
