5 Must Attend Events in La Jolla for Nov. 5-10

The Opening of Side Show at La Jolla Playhouse
Beginning Nov. 5 and running through Dec. 15, the La Jolla Playhouse will present the musical Side Show, helmed by Academy Award-winning director Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, Twilight: Breaking Dawn 1 & 2 and The Fifth Estate). In this production, witness the true story of Daisy and Violet Hilton, sisters joined for life as they journey from the streets to stardom. Re-imagined by a musical theater dream team, the girls’ quest for love and normalcy is set against the spectacle of fame and the scrutiny of the spotlight. Tickets start at $15. Buy them online.

Celebrate UCSD's Alums Wong Fu Productions and the Asian Film Festival
The 14th Annual San Diego Asian Film Festival will showcase 140 films from 15 countries from Nov. 7 through 16 in San Diego. Films will show through San Diego, but the local highlight might be the Wong Fu Production party on Friday, Nov. 8! Celebrate Wong Fu Productions, a trio of UC San Diego alumni, with a panel and party at The Loft UCSD and Barfly La Jolla. So Fine on Kline Fall Festival
The first annual So Fine On Kline Fall Festival will be a throwback block party featuring live music from Honeyrock, Ali Burress, Brad Perry and Saline Solutions. You may recognize the Saline Solutions from their gigs at several Haute La Jolla Nights and the Weather Channel using one of their original songs for a new show called Lifeguard!. Chow down at the hot dog and pie eating contests, take the kids to the fun zone, and enjoy adult beverages at the La Jolla Brewing Company garden. The festival is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Poetry Writing Workshop at Warwick's
Join acclaimed poet Kim Dower as she leads a special Poetry Writing Workshop on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 6:30pm. The cost of the workshop is $30 and includes a copy of Kim's book Slice of Moon, as well as writing materials, and instruction. Please contact the Warwick's Book Dept. at 858- 454-0347 to register.

Kick off the Holiday with an Old Tradition - The Holiday Open House
Halloween is behind us. It is time to start thinking about the holidays. A great place to start your shopping and celebration is at the Holiday Open House on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Seven of La Jolla's shops along Girard will offer in-store drawings, foods and refreshments, music, book signings and more. Don't miss a performance at noon by the La Jolla Country Day Madrigals at Adelaide's. Plus, 10 percent of all net sales of participating merchants will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities San Diego. Participating retailers are Adelaide's, the Ascot Shop, Burn's Drugs, Geppetto's, Girard Gourmet, Meanley and Son, and Warwick's.
