Pro skater Tony Hawk has teamed up with Sprinkles Cupcakes in La Jolla. Hawk, a local native, and Food Network’s Cupcake Wars judge and Sprinkles Cupcakes' owner Candace Nelson will hand out cupcakes to fans at the La Jolla cupcake shop in The Shops at La Jolla Village from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday. And 100 percent of the weekend’s sales of Hawk’s favorite cupcake – the Cinnamon Sugar – will support The Tony Hawk Foundation, which focuses on the creation of public skate parks in low-income communities.
While Hawk will only be on hand for two hours, proceeds from Cinnamon Sugar cupcake sales Friday through Sunday at all 10 Sprinkles stores will benefit both existing and future skaters.
Since 2002, the Tony Hawk Foundation has awarded 505 grants. The Foundation reported that this summer alone, about 200 current skatepark projects sought assistance from the Tony Hawk Foundation, receiving significant guidance and input on their efforts. And from the dozens that applied for funding, seven projects were chosen to receive grant awards, including parks in Philadelphia, Savannah, Ga. and St. Louis, Mo.
Sprinkles Cupcakes is located at 8855 Villa La Jolla Dr., La Jolla, CA 92037.
