Groupon to Help the Local Homeless

A deal with the Regional Task Force on the Homeless- purchase three Hygiene Kits for $9 to be distributed to homeless men, women and children during WeALLCount 2012, San Diego's annual homeless census.

The Regional Task Force on the Homeless (RTFH) has teamed up with the deal site Groupon to help booster the number of hygiene kits that they can distribute during their upcoming WeALLCount 2012, San Diego's annual homeless census that occurs at the end of January.

A $9 donation will pay for three hygiene kits for homeless men, women and children that are encountered during the countywide survey. Over 100 donations have been received so far, only about one-third of what RTFH is hoping to achieve, and the deal ends today.

This is what they say on Groupon about the deal:

"Regional Task Force on the Homeless (RTFH) conducts an annual volunteer-led census called WeALLCount, which collects data on the scope and causes of homelessness in San Diego County. The 2011 survey determined that nearly 9,000 local men, women, and children live on the streets or in shelters. When RTFH reported its findings to the Department of Housing and Urban Development, it helped trigger $15 million in federal funding aid for homeless services.

"In addition to gathering critical data, WeALLCount’s volunteers hand out vouchers for food, share information on local resources, and distribute hygiene kits to provide temporary relief and comfort while the organization seeks long-term solutions. Each hygiene kit costs $3 to assemble, and includes soap, a toothbrush, a small towel, and other bath and care products in a reusable bag. RTFH needs additional funding to meet its goal of distributing 1,000 hygiene kits."

100 percent of the donation goes directly to RTFH- Groupon doesn't take anything off the top, and the kits are assembled by RTFH, so your donation goes directly to those that need it.
