Busby Named Head of Run Women Run

Former congressional candidate Francine Busby is named the executive director of Run Women Run, a group dedicated to supporting pro-choice women for elected and appointed office in San Diego County.

Former congressional candidate Francine Busby was named the executive director of Run Women Run, an organization that supports pro-choice women campaigning for political office in San Diego.

"We believe that Francine’s leadership will allow Run Women Run to play a more important role in electing pro-choice women to office in San Diego and in developing a pipeline for the next generation of women leaders," said Barbara Bry, founder of Run Women Run.

Busby previously served on the Cardiff School District board, has been an adjunct professor of Women’s Students at Cal State San Marcos and ran for a North County House seat several times.

Busby has run as the Democrat on the ballot for the 50th Congressional district against Republicans Randy “Duke” Cunningham in 2004 and three times, including in a special election to replace Cunningham when he was sent to federal prison amid a bribery scandal.

According to Run Women Run, Busby has mentored women in offices ranging from school board and city council seats to Assembly and Congress. She has also worked with Emily’s List, the California List, California Women Lead, the National Organization for Women, National Women’s Political Caucus, Planned Parenthood and other organizations that support women in leadership and elected office.

Vince Hall, vice president of public affairs and communications for Planned Parenthood Pacific Southwest, which includes San Diego, said Planned Parenthood was thrilled and delighted to hear of Busby’s appointment.

“For many years we have trusted her as a valuable counselor and strategist for the pro-choice movement, particularly for the election of pro-choice candidates,” said Hall. “We were also proud to support her in her congressional campaigns. We believe in this new role she will bring experience and skills and intelligence to the pressing need for recruiting and electing more pro-choice women to local, state and federal offices.”
