The answer is simple: Help us give thousands of disadvantaged San Diego youngsters a reason to celebrate the holidays this year.
Each year, the Rock Church been hosting a holiday event called Toys for Joy. It was launched 16 years ago by Pastor Miles McPherson, and each year it brings more smiles to more of San Diego’s underprivileged kids.
This year’s Toys for Joy, open to the public, is set for Saturday, Dec. 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Lincoln High School in Southeastern San Diego. Miles and San Diego City Council President Tony Young will be there, along with a host of civic leaders. Last year’s event provided 9,000 needy families with 8,000 toys, 12,000 bags of groceries and 130,000 articles of clothing. This year, we’re expecting more than 12,000 family members from across the region to attend. For many of these youngsters, Toys for Joy will be the closest thing to Christmas they’ll experience this year. And we’re trying to get the word out early to encourage San Diegans to donate whatever than can spare for the kids.
Anything you can do to bring joy to these terrific youngsters would be much appreciated. To find out more about the event, visit toys-for-joy.org
