Nothing says it's summer like swimsuits, swimming and s'mores. Friday was National S'mores Day and the firepits at La Jolla Shores all being used.
There are only a few beaches that allow bonfires in San Diego county. And La Jolla Shores is one of them. However, there are only six fire pits at the Shores and are a first-come first-serve basis. So get there early if you want to cook up some hotdogs and those gooey dessert treats with chocolate, marshmallow and graham crackers.
Overnight camping is not allowed. Some people get to the Shores as early as 5 a.m. to claim their fire pit.
