Vikings Looking for Third Straight Win

La Jolla visits Mission Bay Friday afternoon while LJCD and Bishop's both have key games on Saturday.

Despite a 2-6 overall record, La Jolla High can remain in the hunt for a Western League football title with a victory at  Mission Bay High Friday afternoon.

The Vikings are 2-1 in league play, and a victory in the 2:30 p.m. game against the Buccaneers (1-7, 1-2) would mean that they would enter next week's regular-season finale at home against a tough Madison squad with a 3-1 mark. The Warhawks are 7-1 and will likely improve their league record to 4-0 with a win against Hoover this week. By winning twice, La Jolla would finish 4-1 like Madison. Point Loma, which handed La Jolla its one league loss, could also win twice to achieve that record, and three teams would end up tied for the league title.

After dropping its first six games, the Vikings have won twice in a row, including last week's inspirational comeback against Serra after learning hours before game time that popular offensive line coach Luis Moya had died unexpectedly.

Starting next season, La Jolla Country Day and The Bishop's School will play football in the same conference.

Bishop's, LJCD to play in same league next season

The CIF San Diego Section Board of Managers passed a proposal earlier this week to realign the Coastal and Pacific leagues for football beginning in 2011, meaning that Bishop's and La Jolla Country Day will now be in the same league. The Torreys will move from the Pacific to the Coastal, considered the tougher of the two leagues.

The Coastal League will be made up of the teams from Bishop's, La Jolla Country Day, Christian, Francis Parker, Horizon Christian and Santa Fe Christian. The Pacific League will include Army-Navy Academy, Calvin Christian, Escondido Charter, The Rock Academy, San Diego Jewish Academy and Tri-City Christian.
