Trivia: What Year Was the Winningest Padres Season?

They've done it before and they can do it again — winning, that is, and a lot of it.

Baseball season is upon us. I can smell the hot dogs and taste the saltiness of peanut shells just thinking about it.

In their April 5 home opener, the Padres got off on the right foot by taking down the San Francisco Giants 3-1 at Petco Park with pitcher Aaron Harang, a San Diego native, giving a notable debut performance.

With a roster flanked by so many new faces (Harang included), it may leave us wondering two things: (1) Are players still showing up to practice wondering, “Who the heck is that guy?” (2) How will the team gel after taking in this legion of newcomers?

However, our 2010 National League Manager of the Year, Bud Black, and his team have expressed a lot of excitement for the 2011 season, and seem to be embracing the challenges laid out before them.

In keeping with this ardent optimism, for this week’s trivia question we’re focusing on one thing, and one thing only: winning. With that said, Patch is asking that you help us channel some good energy from successful Padres seasons past by answering the following question:

Last week’s notable La Jolla High School grads trivia question, answered below:

Choose the notable name below that does not belong to the LJHS alumni roster?

A. Gregory Peck (Academy Award-winning actor as Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird).

B. Brooke Burke (model, TV personality, host of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars).

C. Robin Wright (formerly Robin Wright Penn; Golden Globe and SAG Award-winning actress).

D. Butch Van Artsdalen (“Mr. Pipeline” famed surfer).

E. Crystal Harris (model, Playboy centerfold and Hugh Hefner’s current fiancée).

F. Pierre de Reeder (bassist for band Rilo Kiley).

And the answer is ...

B. Brooke Burke; Ms. Burke wasn’t so lucky as to grace the hallways of LJHS during her adolescence, and although we commend her on somehow finding success anyway, she’ll still never be as big of a deal as a local grad – at least in our eyes.

Congratulations to last week’s trivia winner, Monique Ramsey!
