Torreys Advance in Playoffs; LJHS Falls to Brawley

La Jolla Country Day will now get a rematch with Bishop's; Vikings finish their season 3-8.

Running back Colin McMahon rushed for five touchdowns as La Jolla Country Day routed San Pasqual Academy 43-14 Friday night to advance to the quarterfinals of the San Diego Section Division V football playoffs.

That sets up another battle between La Jolla's two private schools in the Division V quarterfinals on Friday. La Jolla Country Day (7-4) will face fourth-seeded Bishop’s (5-5) at La Jolla High at 7 p.m. Bishop's won 35-16 when the teams met in a Coastal League game on Oct. 29.

McMahon scored on runs of 3, 1, 40, 12 and 20 yards. The Torreys built a 20-0 halftime lead and led 36-6 entering the finaql quarter.

La Jolla High eliminated from Division IV playoffs

La Jolla High saw its season come to an end in Brawley, where the Wildcats scored a 35-15 victory in the first round of the Division IV playoffs.

Senior fullback Jacob Valenzuela scored on runs of 16, 69 and 52 yards and totaled more than 200 rushing yards for Brawley (8-2-1), which will play at Valley Center on Friday.

La Jolla (3-8) was led by running back Kenneth Martey, who rushed for 136 yards on 19 carries. Quarterback Bobby Schuman scored on a 12-yard keeper and completed 9 of 19 passes for 109 yards. Dillon Cromwell had the Vikings' other score and picked up 69 yards rushing.
