Top-seeded Torreys Advance in SoCal Regional

LJ Country Day sweeps Anaheim Connelly in Division IV; La Jolla falls to Brentwood in Division III.

No. 1 seed La Jolla Country Day, the defending state champion in Division IV, advanced with a 3-0 victory over visiting Anaheim Connelly in Tuesday's Southern California Regional girls volleyball quarterfinals.

Game scores were 26-24, 25-14, 25-7 as Kendall Peterkin had 16 kills and Annie Hasselmann added 30 assists for the Torreys (31-8), who will host fourth-seeded Sage Hill (27-5) of Newport Coast in the SoCal semifinals at 7 p.m. Saturday.

In Division III, sixth-seeded La Jolla High traveled to Los Angeles and lost to third-seeded Brentwood 25-23, 25-11, 25-16.

The Southern California and Northern California Regional championships will be held at the home gym of the higher-seeded team on Tuesday, Nov. 29, with the regional winners meeting for the state title on Dec. 3 at Concordia University.
