Tiger Woods will play his first tournament of 2014 in La Jolla. The Golf Channel reported Sunday that Woods will start out the new year defending his championship in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course Jan. 23-26.
The Farmers Insurance Open is the fourth PGA tournament of the year, following the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Maui (Jan. 3-6), the Sony Open in Honolulu (Jan. 9-12) and the Humana Challenge in La Quinta, Calif. (Jan. 16-19).
Last month Woods released this statement: "I look forward to defending my title at the Farmers Insurance Open and appreciate their support of the PGA Tour. Torrey Pines is a part of some great memories for me. I watched the Tour here with my pop during the old Andy Williams tournament. I was really young back then and saw Mark O'Meara and John Cook play. I appreciate all the support from the fans in San Diego. They've always been great to me."
