Tiger Woods is expected to return to San Diego this January to tame Torrey Pines Golf Course. 10News reported on Tuesday that Woods is expected to compete at the Farmers Insurance Open, which runs Jan. 21-27.
10News said, “Woods is not expected to officially enter the tournament until January, but sources close to both Woods and the Farmers Insurance Open have been told to prepare for his appearance at the event, which would mark his 2013 PGA Tour debut.”
Woods was a no-show at the tournament last year. He opted to play in the $2.7 million Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in the United Arab Emirates for the first time rather than the Farmers Insurance Open, which he has won a record six times, most recently in 2008.
He did play in 2011 finishing the tournament tied for 44th. This appearance was his first tournament at the seaside course since he won the 2008 U.S. Open in a dramatic 19-hole playoff with Rocco Mediate. He did not play 2010 or 2009 when the tour came to town. He missed out in 2009 while on the mend from knee surgery shortly after his '08 Open victory here, and sat out in 2010 after the news broke in late 2009 about his extramarital affairs.
