Three La Jolla Students Win Environmentally-Friendly Poster Contest

A total of 19 students, including three from La Jolla public schools, won awards in the 12th Annual Children's Water Conservation Poster Contest.

Mayor Jerry Sanders and District 1 Councilwoman Sherri Lightner recognized 19 student artists including three La Jolla students earlier this month as winners of the 12th Annual Children’s Water Conversation Poster Contest at the City Administration Building.

The contest was open to students in grades 1 through 6. Each grade level had three winners. In La Jolla the winners were: Athena Tsai of , Sage Cathleen Tellew of , and Audrey Tsai also of Muirlands Middle School.

“San Diegans continue to do a great job conserving water and these youth have reinforced our conversation ethic,” said Mayor Sanders in the announcement. “It is important to remember that San Diego still imports most of our water supply. Let’s continue to educate our youth about the value of water and embrace our long-term commitment to waste no water.”

Lightner, who represents District 1 including La Jolla, said she hopes “the students continue their great work in spreading the word about water conservation and sustainability in San Diego.

The winners’ posters will be on display at the San Diego Watercolor Society Gallery in the NTC Promenade at Liberty Station from June 1 through June 30. The Society is located at 2825 Dewey Rd., Suite 105, San Diego, CA 92106. And on display at the San Diego County Fair from June 8 through July 4 at 2260 Jimmy Durante Boulevard, Del Mar, CA 92014.

The posters will also be features in the 2013 City of San Diego Public Utilities Department Water Conservation Poster Calendar.
