Day Trip: Last Week to See Two Exhibits at the California Surf Museum

A party on Feb. 29 will be the day to see exhibits telling the stories of Hansen Surfboards and the museum's history. The California Surf Museum is located in Oceanside.

Surf lovers have until Feb. 29 to see two  exhibits. One tells the 50-year story of Hansen Surfboards and the other shows the museum's 25th anniversary. 

On Feb. 29, the museum will hold a party where attendees can see the exhibits and meet postage stamp illustrator Carl Herrman, who drew the recently released Aloha Shirt postage stamp.

The  at 6 p.m. Feb. 29, at the California Surf Museum, 312 Pier View Way in Oceanside. The museum is a 40 minute drive from La Jolla or downtown San Diego. It is free for members and $10 for non-members.

The museum is asking for donations of Aloha shirts as a fundraiser. It will also auction off a reproduction of Hansen's classic 1967 Superlight model, shaped by Bill Shrosbree.

In March, the museum will have two transitional exhibits — one on surf culture from 1966 to 1972 when surfers transitioned to a short board from a long board and one showcasing skateboard history. It will have new exhibits in June, director Julie Cox said.
