Photos: 81st Annual La Jolla Rough Water Swim

Swimmers of all ages and abilities participated in the La Jolla Rough Water Swim, which was held Sunday at the Cove.

More than 2,000 swimmers, ranging in age from five to 85 and possessing skill levels of amateur to elite, gathered at the La Jolla Cove on Sunday for the 81st Annual .

The event, which is ranked third on America’s Top 50 Open Water Swims, began at 9 a.m. with a 250 yard swim for Juniors (boys and girls ages 12 years and younger) and concluded at 1:35 p.m. with a mile-long race for Amateurs (boys and girls ages 13 to 18). Sandwiched in between were the Women and Men Masters Classic, and the Gatorman Championship, a 3-mile tri-leg course that was open to elite swimmers over the age of 13.
