Padres Second Baseman Teams Up with Sprinkles

Orlando Hudson partnered with Sprinkles Cupcakes to raise funds for a nonprofit dedicated to funding therapy, education and extracurricular activities for children with autism.

Any excuse to have a cupcake is a good excuse, but Padres’ second baseman Orlando Hudson is really giving locals with a sweet tooth a great reason to treat themselves to the sweet treats.

Sprinkles Cupcakes in La Jolla is selling a special “Padres Vanilla Cupcake” now through August 5 and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to Curing Autism Through Change and Hope Foundation, a nonprofit started by Hudson in 2008. CATCH provides grants to schools and other organizations that support the fight against autism. The organization aims to fund therapy, education and extracurricular activities for those with autism.

Last December, the Padres agreed to a two-year deal with free-agent Hudson, 33, who is two-time All-Star and a four-time Gold Glove winner at second base.

He is in his 10th season in the majors, with stops at Toronto (2002-05), Arizona (2006-08), the Dodgers (2009) and Minnesota (2010) before he signed with SD. He's hitting .242 with 2 homers and 22 runs batted in over 65 games for San Diego this season and has a career batting average of .278.
