LJCDS Breaks In New Football Turf at Scrimmage

Football season has officially started at La Jolla Country Day School.

Editor's Note: Torrey Times first published this story on August 17, 2013.

Country Day's new football turf got its first official event Saturday with the annual Blue-White Football Scrimmage.

Coach Jeff Hutzler and his troops had their first game-like experience and reports the players love the new turf. Then players and parents gathered for an all-team meeting with coaches and heard from new Country Day Chief Advancement Officer Peter Hamilton, who talked about his years as a parent at the school and his support for the importance of athletics in a complete education.

Prior to Saturday's scrimmage, the Torreys had conducted practices on the nearby baseball field while workers put the finishing touches on the new field, with Torrey Blue accents that, we suspect, may be visible from NASA's space station.
