The girls volleyball team will be shooting for a third straight state championship this weekend after edging Coastal League foe Francis Parker on Tuesday night for the Division IV Southern California Regional title.
The top-seeded Torreys, who downed Parker in four games in the San Diego Section championship match for their third straight section crown, took five games to fashion a 25-20, 16-25, 25-20, 17-25, 16-14 victory on their home court.
La Jolla Country Day (33-8) will face El Dorado Union Mine (32-5), the top seed in the Northern California playoffs, for the state title at noon Saturday at Concordia University in Irvine.
Freshman Annie Hasselmann had 45 assists and five blocks for the Torreys against Parker. Senior Kendall Peterkin added 24 kills.
“Tonight, we all played really well,” Hasselmann told the San Diego Union-Tribune. “No one stood out. We just meshed together really well. We just kept fighting throughout the whole thing. I’m blown away.”
