LJCD 6-0 After Edging Horizon; Vikings, Knights Lose

Coastal League title may go to winner of next week's Santa Fe Christian-LJCD game.

La Jolla Country Day improved to 6-0 with a 13-7 win over Horizon at Scripps Ranch High on Friday night in the Coastal League opener for both teams.

Leigh Wallace converted a field goal from 34 yards out and Eddie Garcia connected with Sage Burmeister on a 35-yard scoring play to give the Torreys a 10-0 lead after the first quarter. Wallace added a 33-yard field goal in the third quarter before Donte Cretain ran 70 yards for Horizon's lone score.

LJCD will host 5-1 Santa Fe Christian next week in a game that could decide the league title.

Madison 28, La Jolla 14

La Jolla (1-5) gave unbeaten Madison (6-0) all it could handle in a Western League opener, coming back from a 14-3 halftime deficit to tie the game at 14-all early in the fourth quarter before Pierre Cormier scored his second and third touchdowns for the host Warhawks.

Eric Petrofsky had a pair of field goals for La Jolla, and Jack Irwin had a 5-yard run for a score and caught a 2-point conversion pass fromBobby Schuman to tie the game.

Santa Fe Christian 56, Bishop's 13

Santa Fe Christian (5-1) scored on all six of its first half possessions to bolt out to a 42-0 lead in the second quarter of the Coastal League opener.

Jake Seau of Bishop's (4-2)scored on a 2-yard run in the closing seconds of the first half and added a 53-yard touchdown run for the Knights' other score.
