Levin and Stanley Lead the Farmers Insurance Open

San Diego native Phil Mickelson struggled on the South on Thursday when he hit into 11 bunkers. He finished with a 5-over-par 77.

Spencer Levin and Kyle Stanley shot 10-under-par 62s today to take the lead after the first round of the $6 million Farmers Insurance Open at .

Both played Torrey Pines North, which is considered to be the easier of the two courses being used in the tournament, and traditionally delivers the first-round leaders. Those on the North today will play the tougher South course on Friday.

While not in the lead, Marc Turnesa shot a 66 to lead the field on the South course. He'll play the North links Friday.

Defending champion Bubba Watson shot a 69 on the North course, landing him in a tie for 37th place.

Tiger Woods received a $1.5 million guarantee to play a tournament in Abu Dhabi this weekend, rather than appear in San Diego as he usually does. Appearance fees are not allowed on the PGA Tour.

The tournament winner will receive $1.044 million.
