LJCDS Girls Basketball Wins Division IV State Championship

The Torreys take it at 72-41 to claim first championship since 2008. Kelsey Plum scored 32 as the game's MVP.

La Jolla Country Day School's girls basketball team are champions. The team played Selesian High School in the state championship.

The Torrey Girls basketball team scored early, often and with ease, coupling a stifling defense and running away from northern state Salesian High School to claim the Division IV State Championship. It was the third state championship for the Torrey girls team. This team finished the season, 32-1.

Kelsey Plum scored 32 points, including two early three-pointers that seemed to leave Salesian shocked from the beginning.

GAME LOG:

Kelsey Plum hit two early threes and the Torreys are off to a 9-0 start.

"Doing all the things we did not do last game well," Mark Marcus reports from the arena.

Torreys open more than 10 point lead as announcers are starting to sound like they work for us and want a raise!

"Kelsey Plum is tearing it up early,'' says Athletic Director Jeff Hutzler from the arena. "Leads all scorers with eight.''

Torreys ended the first quarter up 18-3, using speed and superior shooting to stymie Salesian.

"Hope it keeps up,'' Marcus opines from the arena.

Kelsey Plum did keep it up with 14 in the first half fueling a 33-10 lead.

"The Salesian Pride have no answer for the Torrey D,'' Hutzler says from the area.

At the end of the third quarter, Marcus weighed in with this analysis: "Stick a fork in it. This one is done!''
