LJCD Hall of Famer Auctions Off His Heisman Trophy Ring for $9,768

Rashaan Salaam auctioned off his ring through Los Angeles-based auctioneer Nate D. Sanders. Bidding closed Tuesday.

An unknown bidder won alum Rashaan Salaam’s 1994 Heisman Trophy ring for $9,768. Los Angeles-based auctioneer Nate D. Sanders announced the sale Wednesday afternoon. There was over 20 bids on the prestigious college football ring.

Salaam, who lives in Southeast San Diego, graduated from La Jolla Country Day in 1992 and played for the University of Colorado, where as a junior in 1994 he led the nation in rushing (186.8 yards per game). He joined previous Heisman Trophy winners Marcus Allen, Mike Rozier and Barry Sanders as the only Division I players to gain more than 2,000 rushing yards in a season.

Salaam ran for 312 yards against Texas that year, capping an 11-1 season for the Buffaloes by scoring three TDs in a 41-24 win over Notre Dame at the 1995 Fiesta Bowl. The unanimous All-America pick was was selected by the Chicago Bears in the first round (21st overall) of the 1995 NFL draft. Injuries dampened his pro career with the Bears, Cleveland Browns and the Green Bay Packers.
