The La Jolla Country Day girls basketball team missed out on a chance to play for a state championship with a 68-58 loss to Los Angeles Windward High Saturday night in the Southern California Regional championship game in Ontario.
The Torreys, who finish the season at 27-5, held a slim 46-44 lead after three quarters, but an 8-0 Windward run to begin the fourth period gave the Wildcats (28-4) a lead they never relinquished. LJCD turnovers helped Windward build a 15-point lead before the Torreys scored the game's final five points.
Windward, which has won 19 straight games, will face Berkeley St. Mary’s for the state championship in Sacramento on Saturday.
Kelsey Plum had 18 points and nine rebounds for LJCD. Maya Hood dded 10 points and 11 rebounds and Malina Hood scored 12 points.
