La Jolla Country Day Girls Are Hoop Champs Again!

The Torreys easily handle Bishop's 79-50 in the San Diego Section Division IV title game for their 10th championship in the last 11 seasons.

It's sort of a rite of spring for the La Jolla Country Day girls basketball team: Wrap up a long, cold winter with a basketball championship. It happened again Saturday morning, with the Torreys claiming their 10th CIF San Diego Section title in the past 11 years with a 79-50 victory over crosstown rival Bishop's.

Since LJCD won its last two Division V titles in 2001 and 2002, the Torreys have won eight of the last nine Division IV crowns, failing to bring home the hardware only in 2009. Seven of the eight have come against Bishop's, which won in '09 against Mater Dei.
