The announced that a major international tennis event is coming to San Diego and the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club. The International Tennis Federation’s (ITF) Senior World Team and Individual Championships will take place at six different sites in San Diego County, including the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, Morgan Run Club & Resort, San Diego Tennis & Racquet Club, La Costa Resort & Spa, Barnes Tennis Center, and Balboa Tennis Club, from Feb. 6 to 19.
Almost 1,000 of the best men and women senior tennis players in the world, ranging in age from 35 to 55 and from 32 countries, will travel to San Diego to compete for the world title in their respective age categories. Tournament admission at the Club is free and open to the public; however, there is a nominal fee for on-site parking.
The ITF holds the World Senior Championships annually at top tennis destinations around the world, and it has been more than a decade since they have been played in the United States. The Club’s long history of staging outstanding tennis events enabled it to partner with the United States Tennis Association and the San Diego Sports Commission to submit a successful bid.
The La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club will play host to the following team competitions from Feb. 6 to 11:
- The Fred Perry Cup for Men 50 and Over and The Margaret Court Cup for Women 45 and Over.
The following week, Feb. 12 to 19, will feature individual championships in these divisions:
- Men’s 50 and 55 Singles and Doubles; Women’s 45 Singles and Doubles; 45 & Over Mixed Doubles.
On the heels of the ITF Championships, the Club will also host the 123rd Annual Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championship on March 1-4. This Doubles Championship highlights many of the best NCAA Men’s college teams around the country and within San Diego.
