Farmers Insurance Open Is Staying in La Jolla; Tiger Woods Ready to Defend Title at Torrey Pines

The Farmers Insurance announced last week that it extended its title sponsorship of the Farmers Insurance Open at the Torrey Pines Golf Course for 5 years.

The Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla will keep its name for at least the next six year. The PGA Tour, Farmers Insurance Open and Century Club of San Diego announced last week that Farmers extended its title sponsorship of the tournament through 2019.

PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem said the 5-year extension, which starts after the Jan. 20-26, 2014 tournament, guarantees the continuation of the positive impacts the Farmers Insurance Open has had throughout the San Diego area.

"Farmers Insurance has been a wonderful partner of the PGA Tour and Century Club since becoming the title sponsor in 2010," Finchem said in a statement. "Farmers has remained very active in its role as title sponsor as well as in its support of the Century Club's charitable initiatives through the tournament."

In 2013, the tournament generated nearly $2.5 to San Diego charities. Tiger Woods won the 2013 Farmers Insurance Open.

"I look forward to defending my title at the Farmers Insurance Open and appreciate their support of the PGA Tour," Woods said in a statement. "Torrey Pines is a part of some great memories for me. I watched the Tour here with my pop during the old Andy Williams tournament. I was really young back then and saw Mark O'Meara and John Cook play. I appreciate all the support from the fans in San Diego. They've always been great to me."
