'Celebration of the Arts' at La Jolla High

La Jolla High School will host a special "Celebration of the Arts" as part of its 90th anniversary activities.

This artful event that is open to the community will be held on the quad of the school's campus. The festivities will highlight the visual and performing arts programs as well as interactive art for all attendees.

Chalk La Strada Chalk art drawings will surround the La Jolla High School quad and ceramics teacher, Mr. Marcus, will offer a "mud fest" for those interested in trying out the pottery wheels.

Student art will be available for viewing and purchase under the tented “Art Village” in the quad.

Drama teacher Anne Boutelle, will be using this event as a class project, where her students will be involved in the production and performance of the festival’s outdoor theater. Ceramics teacher Paul Marcus has been planning all year and guiding his students come up with creative pieces to display and sell. Art Teacher Carol Shamrock has her students creating both 2-D and 3-D visual arts. She will also be spearheading the collaborative rolled paper sculpture on the quad. Photography teacher Zane Friberg is having students capture art “through the lens”. Mr. Mattio’s woodshop is hammering and sawing away to create a beautiful Adirondack chair for the Art Raffle, as well as fabulous wood creations for sale.

All purchases and donations will go directly to the arts departments to help offset the cost of department supplies.
