Calling All Campers! La Jolla's Best Summer Camps

A list of La Jolla's best summer camps for your kids to attend.

With summer just around the corner, no child will want to stay inside! Thankfully, La Jolla has many summer camps to offer kids and teens of all ages, with varying interests and hobbies. From daylong to multi-weeklong programs, La Jolla’s summer camps have it all.

With such a beautiful location to work with, many of these camps take advantage of their sunny days and provide campers with the ability to join in on numerous outdoor and indoor activities, water sports, field trips, and much more.

Take a look at the list below to check out which camps fit your child’s interests the most, and make sure to register fast, as many camps fill up quickly!

Wellspring Camp La Jolla: Join in on the fun at Wellspring Camp La Jolla, a weight loss program and summer camp. Here, campers can enjoy fun in the sun, make friends, spend time at the beach, participate in water sports and many more outdoor activities, all the while enjoying the effects of the healthy weight loss and fitness program. Be sure to register now. Dates: Start dates begin June 24 and continue throughout the summer. Cost: Prices range from $7,500 to $13,250. Ages: 10–24.

Camp Jaycee: Camp Jaycee has activities and programs for children of all ages. Campers will participate in numerous indoor and outdoor activities, take field trips, and can even sign up for specialized camps that focus on their specific interests. From Zumba dance, theater programs, sports of all kinds, arts and crafts, swimming and much more, Camp Jaycee has many options. Camp Jaycee provides to-and-from camp transportation from numerous San Diego County locations. Dates: June 11-Aug. 24. Cost: Prices range from $150 to $1,930. Ages: 9 months through Grade 12.

Menehune Surf Camp: Send your child to the Menehune Surf Camp for safe surf instruction and loads of summer fun. Each camp is limited to small groups of participants so that each can receive personalized instruction. Instructors are C.P.R. and First-Aid trained. Half-day and full-day sessions are available. Rashguards, boards, and wetsuits will be provided by the camp. Dates: Through the end of August. Cost: Prices range from $278 to $578. Ages: 5-17.

La Jolla Surf Camp by Surf DivaSurf Diva teaches more than lady surf lessions. Young boys and girls will learn how to surf in a safe and fun environment at the La Jolla Shores in L aJolla Surf Camp by Surf Diva. Instructors are C.P.R. and First-Aid trained, and the La Jolla Shores beach is the perfect place for beginners to start to learn how to surf. Campers will rock the waves on camp-provided foam-top beginner boards and will be provided with a wetsuit and rashguard as well. Dates: Continue throughout the summer until the end of August. Cost: Prices range from $297 to $500. Ages: 5-10.

iD Tech Camps (UCSD Computer Camps): Send your tech-savvy kid to the World’s #1-ranked Tech Camp, the internalDrive Tech Camp, to get started on some creative and innovative projects and enhance their technology skills. With small camper-to-instructor ratio, (eight campers to one instructor or less), each camper will receive personalized instruction and feedback from some of the world’s best technology experts. Campers will be exposed to instruction and training in areas such as film, computer science, and game designing. Dates: Start dates begin June 25 and continue throughout the summer until mid-August. Cost: Prices range from $749 to $1,049. Ages: Ages 7-17.

Kids' Cooking Camps at Harvard Cookin’ Girl: Even if your child is a picky eater, he or she will have a blast with this new cooking camp experience presented by Harvard Cookin’ Girl. Here, campers will learn how to cook three-course meals, eat a healthy and balanced diet, and even get to participate in arts and crafts and learn yoga. Dates: Start dates vary for different programs. Start dates begin June 18 and continue throughout the summer until the end of August. Cost: Prices range from $185 to $225. Ages: 5-15.

Birch Aquarium Summer Learning Adventure Camps: Send your child to the Birch Aquarium Summer Learning Adventure Camps for a learning experience and under-the-sea adventure. With day and weeklong camps available, your child will have many different opportunities to explore all that the Birch Aquarium camp can offer. Campers will explore marine habitats, create oceanic art projects, participate in various water sports, and learn about oceanography and potential career paths. Dates: Start dates vary between different programs. Camps start June 24 and run until Aug. 24.  Cost: Prices range from $210 to $395. Ages: 4-15.

La Jolla Ice Town's Summer Ice Skating Camp (note: this is in UTC): Hit the ice this summer to cool off and gain new moves and skills with La Jolla Ice Town’s Advanced Summer Ice Skating Camp or La Jolla Ice Town’s Junior Summer Training Camp, located in the UTC mall. Campers are assigned to the Beginners or Advanced camps based on their skating level, rather than being separated by age. Dates: Start dates vary for different programs. Start dates begin June 18 and camps run until Aug. 10. Young Architects Camp with La Jolla Historical Society: Have your child join the La Jolla Historical Society’s Young Architects camp to gain architectural insight and knowledge this summer. Here, middle to high school students will be introduced to the principles and basics of architecture and will gain a deeper understanding of the role it had played in shaping La Jolla and the community as a whole. Campers will go on walking tours, enjoy hands-on projects and workshops, and explore La Jolla’s unique architecture. Dates: July 23-27. Cost: Tuition paid by July 1 is $300, after July 1 is $350. Ages: Middle school and high school students.

Camp Torreys: Get ready for six weeks of fun at the La Jolla Country Day Camp Torreys. Each of the six weeks has its own theme and campers will participate in theme-related activities such as group events, sports, arts and crafts, field trips and much more. Dates: Start dates vary. Weeklong camps begin June 18 and continue through the end of July. Cost: Prices range from $140 to $280. Ages: Kindergarten 4th grade.  

La Jolla YMCA Camp: The La Jolla YMCA is offering a wide variety of great summer camps for kids and teens ages 5-16 this summer. Unfortunately many of these camps have already been filled up. However, there are still some camps left open, like archery, art mania, bowling, cartooning, cheer camp and many others. Hurry on over today to sign your kids up for a YMCA camp experience now. La Jolla Youth Soccer League Soccer Camp: Does your kid enjoy soccer? Well then register them now for the La Jolla Youth Soccer League Summer camps. These camps are perfect for kids ages 5-14 who are looking to improve their soccer skills. Here, campers will work on learning and refining their proper passing, dribbling, and shooting techniques while also getting to compete in scrimmages and other games. Register now and be sure to pay the camp fee three weeks prior to the beginning of camp in order to secure your child’s spot in the camp. Dates: Start dates begin July 16 and run through Aug. 27. Cost: $160 (to be paid three weeks prior to any camp). Ages: 5-14.

The Bishops School Summer Sports Camps: The Bishop’s School is offering a wide variety of sports camps this summer. Check out its six-week long Knights Strength and Agility camp, designed for all athletes who are intent on improving their speed, balance, coordination, overall health and athleticism. Its volleyball and lacrosse programs are also notable, as campers receive many hours of instruction from some of San Diego’s top coaches in these competitive, multi-day camps. Dates: Start dates begin June 18 and run throughout the summer till late July and early August. Cost: Prices range from $140 to $495. Ages: Grades 1-12.

Summer Camp at the La Jolla Rec Center: Join in on the fun at the La Jolla Rec Center this summer, where a wide variety of summer camps will be offered. If your child is interested in attending a camp featuring gymnastics, cheer, soccer, dance, science and labs, filmmaking and cartoons, sign up now. The La Jolla Rec Center has so many camp options, so register your child soon. Dates: Start dates begin June 18 and run through the summer until Aug. 27. Cost: Prices range from $135 to $250. Ages: 3-14.  

Camp Cedar Glen with the La Jolla United Methodist ChurchAdventure time ahead. The San Diego District United Methodist Church is hosting several wonderful camps for campers of all ages at Camp Cedar Glen in Julian. Here, campers can participate in everything from bible study to archery, rock climbing, hiking, and much more. Campers are separated by age into several of Camp Cedar Glen’s programs and will receive an authentic mountainous camp experience while simultaneously strengthening their connection with their faith. Registration closes June 20. Dates: Start dates vary between different programs. Start dates begin July 8 and run through July 27. Cost: Prices range from $210 to $390. Ages: Grades 1-12 and 2012 grads.

Philip Rivers Football ProCamp: Join San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers for some fun and professional football instruction and lessons in the Old Spice Philip Rivers Football ProCamp. Here, campers will be divided into appropriate age and gender groups (open to both boys and girls) and sent to stations where they will focus on building and refining specific skill sets. Campers will learn the fundamentals of the game from some of the top coaches in San Diego. Each camper will receive expert instruction in this camp, as well as participate in games and competitions, and get an autographed camp team photo with Philip Rivers himself. Dates: June 23-24. Cost: $199. Ages: 7-14.

A Time To Dance, Inc. Dance Camp: Get in the groove with A Time To Dance, Inc.’s youth summer dance camps. Each weeklong session will further empower your child to open their minds to the exciting world of performing and creative arts. In this artistic environment, young dancers will build self-esteem and learn the latest moves by several top-notch choreographers. The program includes several types of dance training, including lessons in Hip-Hop, Salsa, Ballroom, Ballet and even Zumba for kids. Dates: July 16-19. Cost: $125-$300. Ages: 6-11 and 12-16.
