More than 6,000 runners participated in the 32nd Annual La Jolla Half Marathon on Sunday morning.

The starting gun for the 32nd Annual La Jolla Half Marathon was fired off bright and early Sunday morning at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. More than 6,000 runners participated and thousands of spectators lined the course to cheer them on.

The course stretches 13 miles between the Del Mar Fairgrounds and Scripps Park at La Jolla Cove, featuring a multitude of scenic views of San Diego's coast along the way.

All participants had to maintain a 13:44-minute-mile pace or faster throughout the event to finish in time. Overall winner Kosuke Amano finished in at 1 hour and 14 minutes.

In honor of the victims of the Boston Marathon and the first responders who came to their aid, runners could leave a message on a memorial wall set up near the finish line.

Runner Wendy Turner wrote: "This run is for all of you Boston. Thank you to the first responders. Stay strong and courageous."
