UCSD Dedicates Student Veterans Resource Center

The facility will support the campus's growing student veteran population by providing opportunities for students to connect with groups and resources, according to UCSD.

A resource center for student veterans is scheduled to be dedicated on Thursday at UC San Diego.

The facility will support the campus's growing student veteran population by providing opportunities for students to connect with groups and resources, according to UCSD.

"At UC San Diego, we are committed to supporting our student veterans," said Chancellor Pradeep Khosla. "These men and women have served our nation and they bring diverse life experiences and perspectives to our campus, and that's part of what makes UC San Diego an exceptional institution."

The university has 251 students who were formerly in the military, 30 more than last year.

Following the 11 a.m. dedication, the school will announce its 14th annual Veteran of the Year. Rep. Scott Peters, D-San Diego, and Assembly Majority Leader Toni Atkins, D-San Diego, are slated to participate.

At noon, a Veterans Day celebration is scheduled at Cal State San Marcos, which estimates 1,100 of its students have served in the armed forces -- making it the highest per-capita ration in the California State University system.

Marine Master Sgt. Joseph Fortin, a CSUSM alumnus, is scheduled to speak.

The schools will have Veterans Day off on Monday.
