Up to 35 qualified schools can be nominated each year, according to the state Department of Education.

Four public schools in San Diego County were among the 35 nominated for the 2013 National Blue Ribbon Honor, state Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced Thursday.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors campuses in which students perform at a high level on state assessments or schools with students from disadvantaged backgrounds that showed great performance improvement on the tests over the past five years.

The School of International Business at Kearny High, Torrey Pines Elementary School and Standley Middle School in San Diego were nominated, along with Ocean Air Elementary School in Del Mar.
