"The Weight of the Nation" Is On La Jolla

The Center for Wireless and Population Health System at Calit2 on UC San Diego’s campus will host a film screening of the HBO documentary “The Weight of the Nation. Part 2: CHOICES” at 5 p.m. on Monday.

The Weight of the Nation. Part 2: CHOICES, an HBO documentary series focused on obesity in the U.S., will screen at the Center for Wireless and Population Health Systems at Cali2 on ’s campus.

The film poses the question of the development of highly effective medication to prevent or reverse obesity. The 72-minute documentary also focuses on how several individuals are managing or struggling with weight loss with making healthier choices.

In 2010, a total of 63 percent of Americans were overweight or obese. In addition HBO reported, 79 million Americans are pre-diabetic.

“I always say this is the biggest I’m ever going to be, and I said that 20 pounds ago,” said one man in the documentary.

Another woman said she couldn’t seem to lose weight no matter how hard she tries.

The four-part documentary series urges viewers to watch, learn and take action.

The screening will take place at Atkinson Hall at 5 p.m. on Monday.
