SDUSD Delivering 1,656 Pink Slips

San Diego Unified School District makes cut to balance their 2012-13 budget.

Just how many educators will be cut at the five La Jolla public schools as a result of San Diego Unified School District's proposed 2012-23 budget is unknown.

As a result of reduced state funding, San Diego Unified voted on March 6 to send notices to more than 1,600 teachers and other certified staff members including nurses, librarians and counselors.

"For our teachers, counselors, nurses and other certificated staff who will soon receive notices; this will be a painful experience with continued uncertainty for the foreseeable future," said Superintendent Bill Kowba in an announcement. "During this time, we must be compassionate, supportive, and understanding of each other."
