School Board to Consider $2.5B Budget with Teacher, Staff Pay Raises
Teachers will receive a 2 percent pay raise over the current school year, while staff will get 3 percent more, according to the proposal.
The San Diego Unified School District Board of Education is scheduled Tuesday to consider a $2.5 billion budget for the 2013-14 school year, while more shortfalls loom in the years ahead.
Total spending is projected to be around $600 million over the current year, thanks primarily to a bond issuance from Proposition Z, which was passed by voters last year.
The unrestricted general fund, which pays for basic services, is set to be $729 million, about $33 million more than this year.

According to a presentation by financial staff, projecting future years is difficult because state funding plans are uncertain.
However, as things stand now, San Diego Unified faces a $100.8 million shortfall for the 2014-15 school year and a $54.3 million deficit the year after, the presentation says.
