See 'Race to Nowhere' at La Jolla High

See a documentary on cheating in schools and how students are becoming ill-prepared for college.

There’s an epidemic hitting our schools and students are keeping quiet—until now.

, which was first shown by the La Jolla Cluster Association back in 2010, is coming back to La Jolla High School. The documentary, by filmmaker Vicki Abeles, follows the issue of cheating in school.

The film delves into student stress relating to testing and how it can cause both stress-related illnesses and depression. Families who watch Race to Nowhere might be shocked to see how common cheating is and how disengaged students have become. If you want your child to be prepared for their impending college careers, this is a must-see. After its initial release, Race to Nowhere prompted changes in homework policies at some public.

The La Jolla Cluster Association is showing the film in the high school’s Parker Auditorium on March 22 at 6:30 p.m. After the film, Principal Shelburne and faculty representatives will address questions about the documentary and a discussion will be led on it.  If more than 50 attend, the school will be given a copy of the movie.

Everyone, including middle and high school students, are welcome to come watch. Tickets can be purchased online here in advance for $10. Tickets bought at the door will be $15, if space is available.
