Pop Rock Star Urges Students to Find a Natural High

Cassadee Pope, lead singer of Hey Monday, visited Muirlands Middle School on Friday to send a message to middle school students: "Don't do drugs, find your natural high."

Students at had a special visitor with a special message on Friday. Pop punk star Cassadee Pope, lead singer of Hey Monday, showed a premier of her new film, signed autographs and asked the local middle school students to sign a pledge to live drug free.

Students first watched a short film Natural High, featuring 22-year-old Pope, MTV star and designer Lauren Conrad, motocross champ Travis Pastrana and professional skater Terry Kennedy.

After the showing, Pope spoke to students on the football field and asked them to sign a pledge to “don’t do drugs, find your natural high.”

In addition, La Jollan Jon Sundt spoke of his losses. Sundt lost both of his brothers to drugs. He started Natural High, formerly the Sundt Memorial Foundation, 17 years ago to encourage youth to choose a “natural high” and reject drugs and alcohol.

To date, the La Jolla-based nonprofit has collected more than 16,200 signatures from teens pledging to reject drugs.
