Photos: La Jolla Playhouse's Annual Gala Is Star-Studded Event

The La Jolla Playhouse held its annual gala Friday night with an elegant Supper Club theme and lots of entertainment.

The hosted its annual fundraising gala on Friday night. Cocktail attired guests were welcomed by event chair Debby Jacobs to the La Jolla Playhouse on the  campus. With the theme Supper Club, smooth sounds from the Joe Satz Quartet provided a perfect backdrop for the reception.

Among the crowd were Rusti Bartell, Barbara Bloom, Bob Caplan, Marsha and Bill Chandler, Lee Clark and Jerry Pikolysky, Martha and Ed Dennis, Ellen and David Dolgen, Ruth and Paul Jacobowitz, Jeanne Jones and Don Breitenberg, and UCSD Chancellor Marye Anne Fox and James Whitesell.

Tasty bite-sized appetizers and signature drinks by Giuseppe’s Fine Catering were served up.

More there included a strong representation of the Jacobs’ family. Stacy and Paul Jacobs, were there, and so were Joan and Irwin Jacobs, Deni and Jeff Jacobs, and Debby and Hal Jacobs with their daughter Lindsey.

Guests continued the evening with dinner in the "supper club" designed by David Weiner. Courses included slow braised ribs with horseradish foam and demi-glace, and a finale of multiple dessert choices. Among them were coconut haystacks and dark chocolate-Frangelico truffle lollipops rolled in candied hazelnuts.

There was live music by Ruby Blue and in-the-moment illustrations by Michael Arthur. Both were hits.

La Jolla Playhouse’s Artistic Director Christopher Ashley and La Jolla Playhouse Managing Director Michael Rosenberg welcomed guests, presented a tribute to casting directors Rachel Hoffman, Will Cantler, and Bernie Telsey from Telsey + Company. Ashley and Rosenberg also acknowledged the passing of important La Jolla Playhouse members
Theodore Cranston and Sheila Potiker.

Theodore Cranston was the Former Chair of the Board, who along with Geri Ann Warnke chaired the Capital Campaign. Amongst many other things Cranston brought back Des McAnuff for his second tenure as Artistic Director under whom the Broadway mega-hit Jersey Boys was born.

Sheila Potiker was the Former Vice Chair of the Board and the generous donor along with her husband Hughes behind the Potiker Theatre at La Jolla Playhouse.

More there for this evening included Julie and Lowell Potiker, Ramin Pourteymour with Aloha Taylor, Laleh and Alex Roudi, Hermeen Scharaga, Miriam and David Smotrich, Jim Sylvester, and Barbara and Karl ZoBell.

Award winning actor Peter Gallagher performed a riveting cabaret-style set featuring popular standards and anecdotes about his career on Broadway, film and TV. Rather a quadruple threat as they say in show biz as Peter can act, sing, dance and is magnetically handsome.

The after party rocked in the S. Mark Taper Plaza with dancing to the tunes of Sue Palmer, the Queen of Boogie Woogie.

All proceeds from this event will benefit La Jolla Playhouse’s New Play Development and Education and Outreach programs.
