Photos: Dr. Seuss' Birthday Bash at UCSD

UC San Diego celebrated what would have been Dr. Seuss' 108th birthday on Friday.

Hundreds of Dr. Seuss fans gathered at Geisel Library on UC San Diego's campus to sing Happy Birthday to the late La Jolla native on Friday afternoon. The song was part of an annual birthday celebration that takes place on campus, a place Theodor Seuss Geisel often came to brainstorm.

The birthday party included a giant inflatable Cat in the Hat, cake and music by The Teeny Tiny Pit Orchestra. The celebration also marked the national Read Across America event and the release of Dr. Seuss' The Lorax, an animated film that features Taylor Swift, Zac Efron, and Danny DeVito.

In addition, an exhibit of Dr. Seuss materials from the Dr. Seuss Collection will be on display through March 9 at Geisel Library. The Library holds the largest collection of original Dr. Seuss works. Approximately 10,000 items are in the collection.
