Muirlands Middle School Rocks Out For Teachers [Gallery]

Muirlands Rocks, an event hosted by Muirlands Middle School faculty and families, raised money to pay for teaching positions this weekend.

Students, parents and faculty of Muirlands Middle School kept on rockin' through the bad weather on Sunday for the annual Muirlands Rocks event fundraiser.

The annual community event will donate proceeds raised this year to combat the anticipated loss of three and a half teaching positions due to budget cuts. Volunteer Donna Scurio said some of the funds will also go to the music program and purchasing new science class supplies.

Attendees could buy ticket packages before entering to use toward games and food or even elect to become a "Rock Star" and help sponsor the event.

Some of the sponsored booths featured face painting, temporary tattoos, a photo booth and cornball. Musical guest Neveready and student DJs from LJRadioTV provided the live entertainment for the afternoon.

"It's nice to see the kids have fun and have a chance to meet all the parents," Volunteer Nicki Scrivener said. "It's a great community event for a good cause."
