Muirlands Middle School Principal Shares First Day Message With Community

Muirlands Middle School welcomed new Principal Harlan Klein on Tuesday, March 25. Klein released the following short message Tuesday morning:

Dear Muirlands Students, Parents, and Community:

As you may be aware, this morning, Tuesday, March 25, 2014 marks my first day as the Principal of Muirlands Middle School. I feel like a kid on the first day of school-eager, anxious, and very motivated. During my career, I have worked as an audio visual technician, an elementary and middle school teacher, a vice principal and a principal in SDUSD for over a decade.  I come to the La Jolla Cluster having proudly served as Principal of Innovation (iMiddle) School for the last 5 ½ years. I am now equally proud, and enthusiastic, to have been appointed as the Principal of Muirlands Middle School.

This is certainly an exciting time for our school and community. I look forward to meeting the students, parents, staff and community in the weeks ahead, working closely to establish our shared vision, set and monitor our goals, and prioritize our focus on students. The opportunity to collaborate and vertically team with the elementary schools and La Jolla High School is already under discussion and the timing couldn't be better. You can expect an invitation soon to meet me in person and begin our dialogue towards ensuring that Muirlands maximizes the impact of quality teaching, learning and the building of strong relationships.

I'm confident that you will find me visible, approachable and above all else, student-centered. You can expect me to work tirelessly to help create a safe and nurturing campus where all students are able to learn at high levels, take risks and creatively apply their knowledge in new and interesting ways. I believe that education should be both incredibly rigorous and amazingly fun. This is especially true for middle school and is something I am very passionate about. Enjoy the upcoming Spring Break (March 31-April 4) and please don't hesitate to contact me in person, by email or by phone if I can be of any service, or you have something to communicate to me. Working together we can make all the difference in the world!
