Muirlands Middle School Issues Warning to Parents About App

Students are using an app to bully other students anonymously—do you know which app this is?

The Muirlands Middle School Counseling Department issued a warning to parents Tuesday. A warning about an app being used by students to bully others.

In a newsletter, the school said it became aware of a popular app, which allows students to access Ask.fm. This website allows student to pose questions and anyone can respond with nearly any answer.

"Students are using this site to bully other students anonymously. Please talk to your child about this. This app can be deleted but the comments are not deleted," the school's Counseling Department said.

Ask.fm's terms of service requires users to be at least 13 years old. However it also does not monitor commenting.

You understand that in using the ask.fm service you may encounter content that may be deemed objectionable, obscene or in poor taste, which content may or may not be identified as having explicit language. The ask.fm service allows for anonymous content which ask.fm does not monitor. You agree to use the ask.fm service at your own risk and that ask.fm shall have no liability to you for content that you may find objectionable, obscene or in poor taste.

The same terms of service points out that it does not allow or encourage users to post "unlawful, harassing, libelous, abusive, threatening, harmful, vulgar, obscene or otherwise objectionable material of any kind or nature."
