Meet LJCDS Lower School Teacher Carolyn Ruszala

Meet La Jolla Country Day School's new Lower School math teacher Carolyn Ruszala.

 Carolyn Ruszala joins La Jolla Country Day School as a Lower School Associate Teacher, under the direction of Marna Weiss, Lower School Director.

Carolyn taught in the San Diego Unified School District and has also worked as a visiting and summer school teacher at Country Day. Her teaching experience ranges from kindergarten through eighth grade.

Prior to moving to San Diego, Carolyn taught fourth and fifth grades for six years in Longmeadow, Massachusetts. She was a member of the Lesson Study Math Team and elected by her colleagues to the School Council.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts as well as her Master’s in Education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. In 2005, she completed a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study program with a special education focus from Elms College in her hometown of Chicopee, MA.

Carolyn currently holds multiple-subject teaching credentials in both California and

Massachusetts. Carolyn is also certified to teach yoga to children, adults, and families. She teaches weekly yoga classes to children and teens in a foster home here in San Diego and a few  times a year treks out to Campo to share the joy of yoga with teenagers in a detention center.

While working in Longmeadow, she facilitated after school yoga classes for the teachers and staff in the school district.

In her free time, Carolyn enjoys cooking, quilting, reading, and traveling.
